Job Details

We are recruiting a substantive Full Time Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to work alongside our existing cardiac surgeons at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. St George's is the local cardiac surgery centre for South West London and its catchment extends to cover Surrey, together with parts of Sussex and Kent.

It is one of three centres that participate in the South London Acute Aortic Dissection Rota. The trust has a busy acute and elective cardiology service with strong requirement for cardiac surgery support. The successful candidate should be fully trained in cardiac surgery and will have experience of treating common emergency and cardiac surgery cases.

The candidate would ideally be willing to contribute to the acute aortic dissection rota.

Our aim is to appoint a candidate who will contribute to St George's as a centre of excellence with training programmes for cardiac surgery. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Directorate by actively contributing to both research and education.

For further information please see the job description.

Main duties of the job

In addition to participating in the on-call rota for out of hours work, the post holder will be expected to have input into the smooth running of the cardiac theatres, attend departmental meetings and have input to the general and relevant subspecialist multidisciplinary team meetings and training sessions for junior doctors and allied health care professionals.
