EPUT is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Physician Virtual Hospital (Frailty) to join the service that is delivered as part of Mid and South Essex Community Collaborative, a partnership between Essex Partnership University Trust (EPUT), North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) and Provide Community Interest Company (Provide CIC).
Main duties of the job
The MSE Community Collaborative is working together to:
Reduce variation for patients across community services, meaning that everyone in mid and south Essex should be able to receive the same outcomes from health and care services regardless of where they live or which organisation delivers their care.
Enable increased collaboration, partnership working and innovation so that we can work together to share our best clinical practices with each other and deliver high quality services which are fit for the future.
Ensure community services are fit for the future enabling more services to be delivered closer to home.
You must have full GMC registration and be on either GMC Specialist Register eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) or GP Register.

The post holder will support the expansion of our innovative Frailty Virtual Ward in the Mid and South Essex ICS. The role will work across the three community providers that deliver the Frailty Virtual Ward.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Entry of either GMC Specialist Register eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) or GP Register.
- Evidence of completion of specialist training or equivalent.
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
Desirable
- MD/PhD or other higher degree.
- Postgraduate diploma ALS.
Eligibility
Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.
Desirable
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Transport
Essential
- Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
Clinical skills, knowledge and experience
Essential
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty.
- Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty, latest best practice clinical guidance and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
- Experience of working independently as a senior clinician.
- Experience of inter-agency working Experience of teaching trainees / multidisciplinary staff demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team.
- Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
Desirable
- Previous experience as a Consultant Geriatrician/ Physician/GP with special interest.
- Experience of community frailty medicine or Virtual Ward.
- An interest in managing frailty in Acute and community care.
- Personalisation, Anticipatory care and shared decision making skills.
Teaching experience
Essential
- Knowledge and experience of supervising undergraduates, junior doctors and other staff.
- Ability to teach clinical skills. Interest in, and knowledge of, advances in medical education and training.
- Ability to operate within a teaching / training culture.
- Ability to encourage on-going learning both in self and others.
Research/Audit experience
Essential
- Knowledge of the principles of research/audit and ability to interpret and apply clinical research.
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems.
Desirable
- Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal.
- Previous experience of quality improvement work including presentation at Regional, National, International level.
Communication skills
Essential
- Excellent verbal and written skills. Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, other specialties and support staff.
- Evidence of management experience or training.
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service.
- Ability to manage and lead department.
