Job Details

Applications are invited for a Consultant Breast Radiologist in Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board, North Wales. The post will be based in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, but will be part of an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team supporting existing breast services for the North Wales region. This post will involve sessions in Breast Test Wales, the screening breast service for Wales. The successful candidate may contribute to the wider workload of the department subject to job plan discussions, including general radiology and teaching of radiology trainees, undergraduate students, and other hospital staff. Flexible working arrangements will be considered and discussions as to your requirements and how they could be accommodated are welcomed. We have strong links with the University of Wales, Bangor and candidates would have an opportunity to develop research links and/or teaching links with the University.

Main duties of the job

  • 10 session job plan
  • Screening sessions at BTW - up to 5 have been agreed (DCC and SPA)
  • SPA - 2 sessions are available, one of which can be undertaken off site, activities to be agreed with Clinical Director. A third SPA can be discussed at job plan reviews if consultant commitments indicated.
  • Symptomatic Breast Consultant will do general radiology sessions and may contribute to general on-call.
  • Each radiologist will have responsibilities for teaching, quality assurance and service management within their specialist areas.
    There is a close working relationship between BCUHB and Breast Test Wales encouraging joint appointments. The post holder will support a range of diagnostic and interventional procedures including:
  • Interpretation of a wide range of breast imaging - mammograms/breast ultrasound and MRI.
  • Undertaking FNAs, wide bore needle biopsies, image guided localisations (including Magseeds, RFID and Pintuition), vacuum assisted biopsy procedures and excisions under US or stereotactic biopsy.

Qualifications
Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • On specialist Register for specialty or Specialist Registrar with CCST due within 6 months of interview date
  • FRCR or equivalent

Experience

  • Experience in breast imaging

Desirable

  • Broad experience in general radiology including cross sectional imaging
