The Leeds Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology is seeking to appoint a Locum Diabetes Consultant. The successful candidate will be working as part of the Diabetes team delivering outpatient care to people living with diabetes. The post will comprise Diabetes foot clinics, a Diabetes Foot Ward Round and General Diabetes clinics. The post will be 6 PA.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of Leeds Diabetes Foot Service, alongside established members of the team, to progress national and local outpatient transformation objectives.

The successful candidates will join an enthusiastic and supportive Diabetes Multi-Disciplinary team with 5 consultant colleagues, 2 GPs with Specialist Interest, Specialist Registrars in Diabetes and Endocrinology, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Specialist Dietitians, Specialist Podiatrists and pharmacy colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post focuses on the delivery of diabetes foot disease and core diabetes. The post holder will deliver care to people living with Diabetes by providing out-patient clinics. Contribute to specialist multi-disciplinary team meetings, contribute to the care of in patients with diabetic foot.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of diabetes. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

The successful applicants should hold accreditation in Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register.

Job responsibilities

This is a 6 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Physician in Diabetes. This post will be available for a period of 6 months.

This post will deliver 6 PAs supporting the Diabetes team. The post-holder will provide Diabetes Foot clinics and a diabetes foot ward rounds alongside Diabetes Clinics.

The post will be based at St James's Hospital.

OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

To assist in the provision of multi-disciplinary out-patient services / clinics in Diabetes, ensuring we meet our objectives of a responsive, patient centred, and high quality service.

To contribute to the development and modernisation of diabetes services with the aim of improving capacity and quality of services to both the local Leeds and regional populations.

To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Diabetes Unit. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department.

To promote patient and public involvement into the services provided by the Diabetes Centre, including involvement with local and national Diabetes patient support groups.

To participate in the education, training, and supervision of staff of all grades and disciplines, including contributing to the design of programs and logistics of local and regional diabetes and endocrinology training meetings.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • The appointee must hold accreditation in Diabetes and Endocrinology in the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent and have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programme within the UK. MB BS (or equivalent)MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
  • Applicants must provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevant Royal College at the time of application, in order for their application to be progressed further.

Desirable

  • Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.

  • The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Endocrinology and appropriate experience in Diabetes and General Medicine.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression
  • Well organised and skilled in good time management.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to relate to and work within a team.

Desirable

  • It is desirable that the candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials
