We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic GP to join our dedicated team, as a salaried GP working 4-6 sessions, with potential to progress to partnership for the right person.

We are a close-knit team of 4 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 3 Advanced Practitioners, Pharmacist, as well as experienced Practice nurses, HCAs, pharmacy technician and management and admin team.

We are based in modern premises, purpose built approximately 10 years ago, serving a growing list size of approximately 10,300 patients, covering the town and semi-rural environ of Newton Abbot, and are rated ‘Good’ by the CQC.

Albany Surgery is a member of the Newton West Primary Care Network, a thriving PCN serving 35,000 patients. We work closely with Kingskerswell and Ipplepen and Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh practice, the other practices within our PCN. This collaborative approach is supported by a PCN support team, with a lead manager, social prescribers and health and wellbeing coaches working across the member practices. We operate an urgent care/”on-the-day” team, who work closely with our receptionists, Advanced Practitioners and pharmacist team and use the system connect triage tool to help manage and direct patient flow. This has enabled us to focus more on continuity with dedicated daily continuity slots and monthly continuity clinics for each GP.

As a practice we are committed to staying at the fore front of changes within General Practice, as such we recognise that the support, growth and training of all levels of our staff, both clinical and administrative, is an essential part of the current and future NHS. Education and learning are our core passions and we have 3 GP trainers hosting a number of GP registrars, we support medical student training placements of all years, and mentor health care professionals undertaking Prescribing qualifications and Advanced Practice postgraduate training. We also strongly believe in supporting all team members to expand their knowledge and skills to fulfil their potential, which in turn benefits our population through the services and care we provide.

We are focussed on providing high quality, empathic patient care that is sustainable for us all, as such our team is our priority, and we encourage a healthy work/homelife balance and structure the week to ensure we meet together regularly. We love to laugh and have an active social committee, who organise team wellbeing and social events throughout the year.

We are participating in the GP collective action to push for a brighter fairer future for General Practice and our patients and work closely with the LMC.

Benefits include:

  • Salary dependent on experience
  • 15 minute appointments (mixture of telephone and face to face)
  • Administration time
  • Daily continuity slots and monthly continuity clinic
  • Embedded ‘on the day’ team, who carry out all acute visits
  • Structured whole team rest breaks/reflection time
  • Active social committee • Mentoring offered for GPs of all stages of career

  • Opportunity for extended access working
  • Participation in education/supervision with GP registrars and medical students
  • Medical research practice
  • Supportive patient participation group
  • Premises built 10 years ago, with minor surgery theatre, large conference room/facilities and private courtyard
