We are inviting applications to fill our MSK Radiology clinical fellowship (STR Level) vacancies at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Department of Clinical Radiology
3 post are available and will commence in August 2025 and end in August 2026. These are fixed term contracts for one year.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will provide a high-quality musculoskeletal radiology service, working closely with the consultant radiologists in this speciality. They will develop a specialist interest in aspects of musculoskeletal radiology. They will be expected to participate in the Radiology SpR teaching programme. In addition, they will participate in departmental clinical research and audit.
In addition, they will be expected to undertake a evening general acute CT list (5-9pm) (alternate week) and this will be incorporated into the fellowship timetable. They will assist in the training of junior medical staff (radiological and other clinicians).
About us
There are departments of clinical radiology at each of the 6 sites that make up Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
In 2019 the Trusts radiology departments recorded 527,184 attendances and 733,188 examinations. A comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional procedures are provided to the population of Leeds. In addition, significant numbers of referrals from the areas of the region and beyond are received for specialist procedures.
Musculoskeletal radiology services are based at Leeds General Infirmary (acute orthopaedics, trauma, spinal and plastic surgery) and at Chapel Allerton Hospital (elective orthopaedic surgery and rheumatology). The team provides imaging services across the field of diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology, including the MSK ultrasound, MRI, arthrography and a wide range of interventional procedures.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The Radiology Directorate across the Trust has 70 + Consultant Radiologists and approximately 50 specialist registrars. Within Musculoskeletal Radiology there are 9 Consultant Radiologists (Drs J Rankine, P Robinson,
H Gupta, D Barron, E Rowbotham, R Fawcett, B Pass, J Baren and M Ooi). They are based on the Chapel Allerton and Leeds General Infirmary sites but provide MSK imaging services across the trust. Dr Philip Robinson currently acts as the speciality lead for the sub-speciality. Three fellows assist the service along with specialist registrars on attachment to the subspecialty.
Participation in departmental research is encouraged and the post holder will be required to contribute to the departmental journal club and educational meetings. The fellows are expected to participate in the teaching and supervision of specialist registrars, sonographers and radiographic staff.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- FRCR (Parts 1 and 2) or equivalent evidence of radiology training with at least 4.5 years in a UK recognised Radiology Training Scheme.
- The candidate should have or be within 6 months of obtaining their CCT in Clinical Radiology.
Desirable
- MRCP, MRCS, or other postgraduate degree
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
Essential
- Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date.
- Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written & spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues demonstrated by one of the followiing:
- Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English or:
- Achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System
- (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (An overall minimum score of 7.5)
- Or, achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application
- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (You must provide your candidate number)
- If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills, but do not have evidence in one of the above forms, they must provide alternative supporting evidence of language skills.

- Evidence of thoroughness (is well prepared, shows self-discipline/ commitment, is punctual and meets deadlines.

Experience
Essential
- Experience in General and Musculoskeletal Radiology with a demonstrable and verifiable interest in MSK radiology. Such interest may be shown for instance through audit and research projects
- in MSK radiology, attendance at MSK radiology courses.
- Documented competence in delivering and reporting a general acute CT service out-of-hours.
- Experience after full GMC registration or equivalent, and evidence of achievement of foundation competences, in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice including
- Make the care or your patient your first concern and provide a good standard of practice and care. Take prompt action if you think that patient safety, dignity or comfort is being compromised .
- Protect and promote the health of patients and of the public and treat patients as individuals and respect their dignity.
