Hinton is located in Yellowhead County, 81 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of Jasper and about 284 kilometers (176 miles) west of Alberta’s capital city, Edmonton, at the intersection of Yellowhead and Bighorn Highway, in the Athabasca River Valley.

Hinton is a regional hub of recreation, healthcare, and retail in the West Yellowhead region, also serving neighboring Grande Cache, Jasper, and Edson. The town has developed into two separate areas, about 5km apart, known to residents as the Hill and the Valley – separated by Highway 16. There are shopping and service nodes in both areas, as well as at Parks West mall on the west end of town.

The Grande Prairie Regional College also delivers post-secondary education for the in Hinton.

 

There is an impressive array of health services, located within the community and local hospital (Hinton Healthcare Centre), all staffed and delivered by an exceptional group of dedicated health professionals. These staff members are responsible for delivering acute care, long-term care and community care. The hospital provides everything from general services, obstetrics, occupational therapy, emergency care, general surgery, and much more. In addition to the hospital, seniors can access a wide range of services and support programs, at the Mountain View Centre and Hinton’s Continuing Care Centre. There is one medical clinic in the community, dental clinics, and optometry clinic.

Job Description

 

Alberta Health Services - North Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine Physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of Hinton. This position will provide services in Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, and Long Term Care.

 

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

 

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of Hinton.
  • Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community. Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services. Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including equal participation in the Emergency Department/Surgery/Obstetrics call schedule, as required. Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules, and AHS policies. Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine. Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs. Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned. Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.

Qualifications

  • Current Alberta Practice Permit or valid CPSA Letter of Eligibility to practice in the advertised position (proof to be included with application).
  • Recent hands-on experience (within the past 2 years) in all areas of practice noted within the Description, as the sole provider. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP). College of Family Physicians of Canada - Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM). Geriatrics. Rural Emergency Room Experience.
