Join Our Expert Urology Team as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Launceston General Hospital

Launceston General Hospital invites applications for a Consultant Urological Surgeon to join our dynamic and expanding team. Serving a population of approximately 300,000, our unit provides a comprehensive Level 6 Urology service across North and North-West Tasmania, along with statewide sub-specialist services.

Our urology department is renowned for its supportive and collaborative culture. You’ll be joining a team of four experienced urologists who are committed to excellence in patient care, well supported by a team of registrars, including a SET trainee and clinical nurse specialist.

We have access to state-of-the-art equipment and are excited to launch a robotic platform and programme this year, enhancing our surgical capabilities.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in satellite clinics and theatre lists at the Mersey Community Hospital as part of the Statewide Urological Service provision, and to participate in SET Registrar training and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings. Subspecialist interests are encouraged. Experience in Female urology and reconstruction is highly valued.

The role:

Clinical Activities:

  • Operating in the Main Theatre Suite at LGH.
  • Operating in the Day Procedure Unit at LGH & MCH.
  • Seeing patients in the Outpatient Clinic at LGH & MCH.
  • Weekly Grand Rounds.
  • Provide consultative service for other specialty units.
  • Supervising clinical work of junior medical staff in the Unit.

Quality Assurance Activities within the LGH:

  • Participating in Unit and Departmental Management Meetings.
  • Participating in continuing education meetings.
  • Teaching of the clinical staff (Doctors and Nurses).
  • Ensuring accurate clinical records are maintained for each patient.
  • Overseeing the quality of care provided by the junior medical staff.

Teaching & Research:

  • Undergraduate teaching, including tutorials for students of the Tasmanian Medical School.
  • Teaching of junior medical staff.
  • Participate in clinical reviews and research activities at the LGH.

Call Back:

  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster with other consultants.

Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives and related training.

Launceston General Hospital & Mersey Community Hospital, Department of Surgical and Perioperative Services; outpatients and theatre suites. The Launceston General Hospital (LGH) provides inpatient and ambulatory services to Launceston and surrounding areas.

Details of Appointment

Fixed Term, part time, day worker with on call, working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a three-year period. Please note that a possibility exists for the successful applicant to work in a position of a Visiting Medical Specialist or as a Staff Specialist, hours to be negotiated.

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioners 

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $210,000 - $310,349 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging.

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 -$301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Urology Specialist Allowance of up to $110,000 per annum, pro rata 
  • Provision of a motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum, pro rata
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum, pro rata
  • Relocation and commencement support available up to $15,000 for approved appointees

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in Urology/Urological Surgery
  2. Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate
  3. (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
  4. (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in Urology/Urological Surgery.
  5. Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
