We are looking to appoint a specialty doctor in anaesthetics with an interest in:1. General Anaesthesia and perioperative medicine 2. Trauma and Orthopaedics 3. Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The jobs are full-time posts.

Main duties of the job

The post has arisen to meet the demand driven by the expansion of theatre activity and retirements

Job Planning:

The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement between the appointee and the chief of service, that sets out a specialty doctor's duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a specialty doctor's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research and education and managerial responsibilities. It provides a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it includes personal objectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

Changes having budgetary or contractual implications would also need the agreement of the chief executive.

One half day per month is dedicated to audit and teaching during which time all routine work is suspended. All staff are expected to attend except for those providing emergency care cover and those on leave. The directorate meeting is also held at this time. It is assumed that every member of the department will play a full part in formal and informal teaching of medical and other staff, and this is recognized as part of Supporting Professional Activities Study Leave: All members of the department are encouraged to take study leave and will be expected to undertake CME in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists CPD requirements is encouraged in the department, and we support individuals looking to expand the irroles into teaching and management and to pursue CESR. On-Call Commitments: There is no on-call commitment.

About us

Frimley Park Hospital is now a part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust which was formed in October 2014 following the acquisition of Heatherwood and Wexham Park NHS Foundation Trust by Frimley Park NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust is now one of the biggest providers of district general hospital services in the country serving a combined population of more than 800,000 people.

Frimley Park Hospital is a busy 700 bedded district general hospital and is a tertiary referral centre for Vascular Surgery, Stroke and primary PCI. It has a large and expanding Obstetric service. There is also a large Orthopaedic Department, including Spinal Surgery, as well as a large Colorectal Surgical Unit within the surgical directorate. There is a state-of-the-art Emergency Department, complete with a helipad and a keen focus on trauma care. These reflect the Trust's objective of providing hyper acute services to the local community.

Frimley Park Hospital was the first hospital in the country to be awarded an 'Outstanding' rating by the CQC under its new inspection regime.

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent

Desirable

  • An additional higher qualification
  • Primary FRCA or equivalent
  • FRCA or equivalent

PROFESSIONAL/ SPECIALIST/ FUNCTIONAL EXPERIENCE
Essential

  • Extensive experience in all aspects of Anaesthetics, Minimum 2 years in specialty.
  • Experience of working in the UK or similar health system.
  • Familiar with contemporary postoperative pain control.
  • Evidence of continuing medical education including Resuscitation training

Desirable

  • Involvement in research including publications or post graduate diploma

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES FOR ROLE
Essential

  • Ability and willingness to teach trainees and other staff
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance and clinical Risk. Experience of audit.
  • To be clear, fluent and articulate in English, both written and oral.
  • Computer literate

Desirable

  • Understanding of management and financial arrangements in the NHS
  • Clear plan for continued professional development
