We are looking to recruit a consultant Endocrinologist, initially for a 12 month post with the probability of extension beyond this. This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to work within the Endocrinology team at the Christie Hospital
The applicant will deliver 7.5 PAs general and specialist Endocrinology care to outpatients on the Endocrine Unit and inpatients on the Oncology wards. The Trust provides an inpatient service for selected non-elective admissions where the reason for admission is primarily related to the patient's underlying malignant diagnosis or its treatment. All admissions are already in receipt of oncology care at the Trust.
The successful applicant will be supported to contribute and develop expertise in endocrine late effects of cancer treatment, neuroendocrine tumours and oncology metabolic bone (including DXA reporting).
Main duties of the job

The role will be responsible for:General and Specialist Endocrine outpatient clinicsEndocrine/Metabolic in-reach to the Oncology wards
Participating in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, including maintaining up to dateprotocols, guidelines and clinical audit, under the supervision of the other consultants in in theunit.Contribute to current research projects and establish new opportunities to expand anddevelop research within the team.Revision and development of evidence-based protocols for patients and undertaking theadministrative duties associated with the care of their patients.Maintaining a level of continuing professional development consistent the recommendationsof the Royal College of Physicians.Contributing to the undergraduate teaching of medical students on Endocrine topicsProviding lectures for the busy postgraduate teaching programme.Actively contributing to the training of resident doctors and other multi-disciplinary team members in both in-patient and outpatient departments.

ROLE PURPOSE
Endocrinology
The Department of Endocrinology provides a service for secondary referral from GPs and tertiary referral from consultants throughout the North-West Region as well as referrals from other departments within the Christie Hospital. Over 95 per cent of the referrals consist of patients with endocrine disorders but within the Christie Hospital advice from the Endocrine Department may be sought from other departments regarding the diagnosis and management of patients with diabetes and general medical disorders. The range of adult endocrine disorders presenting to the Department is comprehensive but dominated by cancer late-effects, pituitary, adrenal, thyroid and reproductive disorders.
As well as having a general endocrine service, there are specialist clinics for:
Late effects of cancer treatment (joint with Oncology) Hormonal complications of cancer treatment Oncology metabolic bone service Immunotherapy endocrine complications Pituitary disease Thyroid disease Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) one-stop radioiodine service Transition (coordinated transfer of care from childrens to adult service) Neuroendocrine Tumors Adrenal disease Bone/osteoporosis (including DXA scanning) Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) Turner Syndrome Genetic Endocrine Conditions (MEN syndromes and associated disorders) Chromosomal instability disorders
At the Christie, all clinics are held on the dedicated 5-day Endocrine Unit which comprises seven consulting rooms, a four-bedded day case area, a laboratory, and a DXA scanner. Scrutiny and organization of the day-case endocrine investigations is performed on a weekly basis at the departmental Friday ward round.
The appointee will also participate in the care of in-patients at the Christie with Endocrine and Metabolic disturbance
Regular undergraduate and postgraduate teaching takes place throughout the year and includes dedicated teaching sessions, involving other endocrinologists in the North West Region, and combined endocrinology-radiology meetings.
The Endocrinology service delivers c900 New patient appointments and c8,000 FU attendances per year. This work is currently shared between 4 Endocrinology consultants who undertake this alongside their academic/research/Acute Oncology commitments. The team is supported by 3 Endocrine STs, 2 Internal Medicine Trainees, Endocrine Nurse Specialists and Diabetes Nurse Specialists.
The duties are entirely based at The Christie Hospital, Withington, and limited to the in-hours period (09:00-17:00 Monday to Friday). There will be no on-call commitment.
Trial activity is embedded within clinical service activity across all departments and services at The Christie and the post holder will be expected to maintain existing research and trial activity within their areas working with colleagues from Research and Development.

- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register via one of the following: a.Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview). b.Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
- Registered on the GMC's Specialist Register in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Acute Internal Medicine (within 6 months).
