Job Details
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Urological Surgeon with an interest in Stone surgery and Core urology. The initial post is expected to be made up of approximately 50% stone work and 50% core urology to help the team tackle the current pressures on the service. This balance is likely to change as the post and the service develops. This is a substantive post starting initially with 10 PA, within the Department of Urology at The Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT).
The department is looking for a consultant with the right attributes to join one of the largest Urology teams in the country. Due to the recent changes in urology provision across Manchester a vacancy has been created to help provide urology services to patients served by Manchester Foundation Trust. This post is available with immediate effect.
Main duties of the job
The department is looking for a consultant with the right attributes to join one of the largest Urology teams in the country. Due to the recent changes in urology provision across Manchester a vacancy has been created to help provide urology services to patients served by Manchester Foundation Trust. This post is available with immediate effect.
Within MFT, urology services are currently spread across two inpatient sites - Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital. Urological activity is also undertaken at North Manchester General, Withington, Trafford General and Altrincham Hospitals.
In April 2024 the catchment area of North Manchester General Hospital became fully incorporated into the MFT Urology service. Currently out-patient & Diagnostics clinics are run daily alongside acute urology assessments from the A& E and wards when required. Two 23 hour stay all day theatre lists are run on a Tuesday and a Thursday. Any acute Urology transfers / admissions are transferred to the in-patient site at the Manchester Royal Infirmary.

- MB. ChB or equivalent
- FRCS or equivalent
- Broad experience of elective and emergency urological surgery
- Completion of Higher Specialist training in surgery (or within 6 months of interview)
