A consultant in Intensive Care Medicine will have the opportunity to work within a dynamic department that leads in quality clinical care. Candidates with complementary specialty training will have the opportunity to accommodate a complementary specialty in job plan.

Desirable experiences would include experience in different hospitals / departments where opportunities to develop leadership and management experience have been fully utilised. Evidence of team working is essential.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a high quality candidate to join the critical care team as a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) was formed on 1st October 2017 following the merger of Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM).

The Trust comprises of Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, University Dental Hospital of Manchester, St Mary's Hospital for Women, The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Trafford General Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital, Altrincham Hospital and Withington Community Hospital.

MFT is in partnership with the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) which provides patients and clinicians with rapid access to the latest discoveries, and improving the quality and effectiveness of patient care.

Through extensive local, national and global collaborations, MAHSC is becoming a major biomedical and health hub, providing clinical and research leadership and helping healthcare organisations to reap the benefits of research and innovation to drive improvements in care.

Person Specification
Attainments
Essential

  • Fellowship or membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetists/ Physicians/Emergency Medicine or equivalent.
  • Fully registered medical practitioner with licence to practice on the GMC Specialist Register

Desirable

  • Fellowship of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine or Equivalent

Training
Essential

  • Eligible to be included on the GMC Specialist Register with a CCT or equivalent Certificate of Eligibility for CESR in ICM or within 6 months

Desirable

  • MRCP/FRCEM/EDIC Extended complementary skills (e.g. Echo, USS accreditation)

Professional Interests and Experience
Essential

  • Experience of general critical care casemix.
  • Experience of tertiary management of complex critical care patients.

Desirable

  • Evidence of the use of audit in changing practice.
  • Knowledge of up to date literature

Management and Administration
Essential

  • Ability to manage & lead a team.
  • Some experience of departmental management

Desirable

  • Evidence of postgraduate management training.

Teaching and Research
Essential

  • Interest in undergraduate & postgraduate teaching.
  • Experience in teaching postgraduates clinical & procedural skills.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate training in medical education
  • Evidence of delivery of research.

Domicile

  • Able to travel to and from hospital site including out of hours
