Job Details

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Trust Doctor at registrar level based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle but also with travel to West Cumberland Hospital when needed.

Based on both hospital sites the cardiac service provides a comprehensive range of non-invasive and interventional cardiology, including transthoracic and stress echocardiography, coronary angiography, transoesophageal echo, coronary angioplasty and pacing for bradycardia. We have recently opened our two new state of the art cardiac cath labs providing PPCI intervention 24/7

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an applicant interested in pursuing a career in Cardiology to gain experience in a busy department with a full interventional cardiology service on site whilst potentially further developing IM competencies that may allow for application to specialty training in cardiology.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include but not limited to:

o Day to day management of the inpatients on the coronary care unit and cardiology wards. Consultant ward rounds occur daily on CCU and on alternate days on the base ward and heart centre.

o Participation in Cardiology out-patient clinics including recent onset chest pain clinics

o Supervision of junior doctors

o Teaching of junior doctors and medical students

o Sessions in the cardiac catheter laboratory - exposure to angiography, second operator PCI and other procedures to level of experience and training needs

o Echocardiography according to level of experience and needs of training

o Provision of out of hours and on-call cover in acute/general internal medicine

o Review of referrals requested by other physician or surgical teams
