This post provides an exciting opportunity to make a real contribution to the provision of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services in Cardiff, together with teaching the next generation of dentists.

Applicants should have four years Hospital/Community experience of oral surgery / OMFS. They will have effective communication skills and have the ability to make independent clinical decisions when necessary. Applicants should also have experience in acute dentistry.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be required to participate in Consultant Clinics, provide MOS treatment sessions, assist on the Same Day Emergency Dental Care Clinic and participate in the teaching and supervision of dental undergraduates and Dental Core Trainees within the University Dental Hospital

The postholder will also be required to participate in the on-call provision for OMFS

  • BDS
  • GDC Registration
  • MFDS/MJDF/MFGDP

Desirable

  • Additional Higher qualifications
  • Academic Excellence
  • Relevant Sedation qualification
  • On specialist list for Oral Surgery

Experience
Essential

  • 4 years experience since qualification at time of appointment, at least 2 of which will include recent experience in OMFS / OS
  • Experience of providing treatment under conscious sedation

Desirable

  • Assessment of Emergencies
  • Providing experience under conscious sedation

Skills
Essential

  • Commitment to Team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken english adequate to enable effective communication about dental / medical topics
  • Understanding of Clinical Risk managment and Clinical Governance
  • Up to date in current practices in Oral Surgery
  • Teaching Experience
  • Counselling skills
  • Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from senior dentists as appropriate
