Job Details
Are you a consultant looking for a challenging and rewarding career in Paediatric Emergency Medicine? If so, your application is invited to join our Emergency Department as a Consultant working in our Paediatric Emergency Department, this is a new post and an exciting role! Based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage the post comprises of 10 programmed activities (PAs) plus 2 indicative additional programmed activities (APAs) including on-call commitment.
The emergency services are provided through the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, within an hour's driving distance and 25 minutes by train from both London and Cambridge. This is an opportunity to join the enthusiastic, dynamically progressing and forward-thinking modern Emergency Medicine team. The department has new attendances in excess of 100,000 patients per annum. There is a separate dedicated Children's Emergency Department (CED) open 24-hours. The hospital also receives patients from the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance service and is a local trauma unit for the major trauma centre at Addenbrookes. The department has 24-hour middle grade cover with dedicated middle grades for CED 24/7.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
Essential
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register. CESR applicants will need to be on the Specialist Register at the time of interview
- MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
- Paediatric Emergency Medicine Subspecialty Training via RCPCH route (or demonstrably equivalent training)
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support (or European Paediatric Advanced Life Support) and Advanced Trauma Life Support
- Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
Desirable
- Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)
- ATLS/EPALS/APLS instructor status (at least one of these)
Previous Experience
Essential
- Broad range of experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine in particular: ? Experience of a wide range of clinical procedures to carry out duties in an emergency. ? Experience in day-to-day organisation of Paediatric emergency services
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
- Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Desirable
- Demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role

- Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
- Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
