We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to work as a Consultant in Hepatology within Kings College Hospital. The post-holder will work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for in-patient and out-patient specialist Hepatology. The post will be based at Denmark Hill, working with all colleagues within the Liver Unit and the Liver/Gastroenterology/Endoscopy Care group. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who has an interest in Genetic Liver Diseases. Creating strong working relationships across the region as a key contact, promoting the current pathways and supporting existing referring hospitals to ensure timely patient advice and support.
Main duties of the job
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Hepatology patients at King's College Hospital.
With colleagues, to run and further develop the inpatient and outpatient service for genetic liver diseases. To implement innovative care delivery models to optimise patient care and reduce in-patient stay. These include the use of care bundles, ambulatory care pathways, hot clinics and the increasing use of tele-medicine including regional MDT meetings with referrers.
To further develop working relationships with referring colleagues in South East England. Various methods of working are envisaged including satellite clinics in key referral centres and increasing use of telemedicine and IT.
Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
Building Genetic metabolic liver disease database.
Wilson's disease and liver transplantation- A1AT and liver transplantation
Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and nursing colleagues
To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Hepatology department.

5. To take an active role in clinical research.- Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
- Responsible for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to CPD and clinical governance initiatives.
- Contribute to departmental research interests in accordance with the Trusts R& D framework.
- Contribute to the audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, clinical governance programs and learning from Deaths.
- Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the departments/ Divisions Business Plan. This may include assisting with discussions regarding service plans and developments with internal and external agencies.
- Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s).
- Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty. This will include fostering and developing projects focused towards these ends and ensuring that the momentum of post-qualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintained.
- Work in conjunction with clinical and other professional colleagues to ensure that the productivity of staff within the specialty is maintained and their job satisfaction is enhanced. This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.
- Undertake Divisional management duties as agreed with the Divisional/departmental Manager/Clinical Director.
- Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
- Prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that you are responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence-based practice and maintaining patient safety.

Essential
- Registerable medical qualification MRCP or equivalent
Desirable
- MD or PhD

- Within six months of the expected date of CCT (or equivalent) on the day of interview Full registration with GMC and Name on Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment.

- Wide experience in all aspects of Hepatology, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent in Gastroenterology/Hepatology

- Experience in day to day organisation of General Medical services in a busy Teaching Hospital

- Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Management and Leadership
