Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology based at University Hospital of Wales. This locum post is available for approximately 12 months pending recruitment to a substantive post in the future.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £105,401 per annum.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will join a team of three Consultants at a well-established and the largest Gynae-oncology centre in Wales. The centre offers a comprehensive gynae-oncology service with dynamic research opportunities. There is a requirement to provide an on-call service as part of a rota.

Qualifications
Essential

  • On GMC Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT / CESR(CP) due within six months of interview date
  • Sub-specialist accreditation in Gynae-oncology (or projected to complete within 6 months)
  • BSCCP accreditation

Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of training and experience in managing patients with gynaecological cancer

Desirable

  • Experience of managing advanced ovarian cancer patients
  • Experience of robotic surgery

Skills
Essential

  • Evidence of advanced level of surgical skill in gynaecological cancer surgery
  • Evidence of effective team and multi-discipinary working
  • Effective and demonstrable communication skills

  • Experience of minimal access surgery in gynaecological cancers
  • Experience of managing advanced ovarian and peritoneal malignancies
