Job Details

This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis, although less than full time applications will be considered. With working from home options, flexible working and future digital reporting - within this post there is scope for any or all of these components. We seek to appoint a dynamic and motivated pathologist to join our existing team, currently comprising 12 enthusiastic and supportive Consultant Histopathologists in a Department which we believe offers excellent opportunities to develop as a professional. This post is a replacement position, arising against a background of colleague retirement.

You will be joining a team of consultants who currently cover 10.7 WTE posts in a combination of full-time and part time positions. Within this a flexible working policy is considered to be an integral part of our team approach.

Applicants must possess FRCPath or equivalent and have a broad experience in Histopathology (including being within 6 months of their CCT if in a UK-based Histopathology training scheme at the time of the advisory appointments committee).

Surgical reporting duties in these posts would be carried out as a generalist, whilst also sharing cover of one or more Mult-iDisciplinary Team meetings with colleagues. This is considered an essential component of the position and allows for maintenance or development of special interests with the generalist setting (MDT specialties to be covered for an appointee would be open for discussion with the successful candidate).

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the post will include

Histopathology surgical specimen reporting.

Non-gynaecological cytology reporting (no gynaecological cytology is undertaken).

Joint lead in one or more multi-disciplinary specialties (MDTs supported include Breast, Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal, Skin, Gynae, Urology, Head & Neck, Colposcopy, Cancer of Unknown primary, and Lung).

No on-call commitments.

Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space and secretarial support is provided.

Supporting Professional Activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, with a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service.

About us

We provide care and support to over a million people in Wakefield and Kirklees in their homes, community settings and across our three hospital sites at Pontefract, Dewsbury and Pinderfields (Wakefield).

Always striving for excellence, we are at the forefront of innovation and research, and we invest in teaching and the development of our workforce.

We live by our values of caring, improving, being respectful and maintaining high standards. We listen and learn because we aim to make Mid Yorkshire the best place to work and receive care.

We value diversity and welcome talent and enthusiasm irrespective of age, disability, neurodivergence, sex, gender identity and gender expression, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or other personal circumstances including providing unpaid carers support to someone with a health and care need. As ethnic minority groups, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with a disability/neurodivergence are currently under-represented across the organisation, we encourage applications from members of these groups. We have policies and procedures to ensure all applicants are treated fairly and consistently.

We are proud of our staff networks - who offer valuable guidance and feedback from those with lived experience.

We have a clear vision and you could be part of this! If you share our values and you want to make a difference to the lives of our patients and their families and carers, we would love to hear from you.
