The Department of Medicine & Therapeutics, Faculty of Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is searching for a motivated candidate for the Research Assistant Professor (RAP) in Geriatric Division. The RAP is expected to analyse large multimodal datasets of prospective cohort studies to examine the roles of gut microbiome and blood based metabolites in Alzheimer disease (AD) and human ageing, and to conduct clinical trials of interventions for AD and osteoporosis by improving gut microbiota. The position will report to Professor Timothy Kwok.

Applicants should have

i)    a PhD related to human diseases with strong background of molecular biology and bioinformatics;
ii)    experience in diet and nutrition data processing and analysis;
iii)    experience in multi-omics (genomics, metagenomics, metabolomics, proteomics and transcriptomics, single-cell sequencing) data processing and integrated analysis;
iv)    experience in translational research and commercial innovation or service is advantageous;
v)    track record of productivity supported by first-author publications in high impact journals, international patents, translational outputs and grants awarded; and
vi)    outstanding writing and communication skills, with an ability to work both independently and within collaborative teams productively.

The appointee will be expected to

a) lead a team for designing and performing bioinformatics;
b) data analysis to characterize the causality between gut microbiota and AD and ageing;
c) conduct clinical trials of probiotics for AD and osteoporosis; and
d) supervise PhD students and interns.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one to two years commencing as soon as possible, renewable subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement.  The start date will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
