Job Details

This is a post based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, combining experience in a clinical specialty with teaching commitments and experience. Teaching opportunities include undergraduate teaching of Birmingham University medical students and participation in the teaching of Emergency Medicine trainees at ACCS and CT3 level, and foundation and GPVTS trainees within the Emergency department. There are also opportunities for supporting and participating in the training of ENPs and ACPs. A focus for this post will be developing multidisciplinary resuscitation simulation training further, particularly Paediatric and Trauma simulation. Remuneration will be at the appropriate point on the specialist doctor scale.

Main duties of the job

The post is suitable for trainees whose career would be advanced by the opportunity to develop clinical skills along with specialist teaching skills. It is designed for clinicians with three or more years of experience post full registration that have worked in an acute speciality or taken part in the ACCS programme. It might be of interest to registered practitioners who are studying for a higher qualification, writing up research, or applying for higher specialist training rotations, or any combination of these. It may also appeal to higher trainees who wish to take time out of a training programme, subject to the approval of the appropriate Specialist Training Committee.

Each full time post attracts a 40 hour contract: the post holder will have 32 hours for clinical responsibilities and 8 hours per week for Education related activities.

There may be opportunities to increase the number of hours dedicated to Education once in post based on specific identified responsibilities. The above contract is a guide.

The successful applicant will form part of the ED Middle Grade rota, this an eighteen week rolling rota as detailed below. There is teaching for Middle Grades on Wednesdays during term time to mirror the teaching sessions ST4 and above EM trainees attend. All doctors have named Educational and Clinical Supervisors.
