Help us grow our Acute Medicine Consultant team and deliver amazing patient care.

Based at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, our 15-strong Acute Medicine Consultant team looks after the 56 bed Acute Medical Unit – seeing around 80 patients each day referred for emergency medical assessment. The team also sees 20-40 patients per day in our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit.

We’re proud to have a fabulous multidisciplinary team, spanning general and specialist Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Physician Associates, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Administrative staff. We also have a strong, well-staffed junior doctor workforce, and excellent support from specialist and Emergency Medicine colleagues. We also enjoy close links to Sheffield’s two leading universities – with Honorary Senior Lecturer status awarded to our Consultants.

This is a really exciting time to join our expanding team, as we look to increase the acute medicine footprint. We plan to expand SDEC and manage an enhanced care area and a new short stay ward. We’re looking to grow the department’s research portfolio, as well as increase training opportunities, particularly in bedside ultrasound.

We’re looking for passionate applicants that share our PROUD values and have either their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) in Acute or General Medicine. The department has successfully supported CESR applications and is very supportive to International Medical Graduates (IMGs) with induction to a different
healthcare system.

Various speciality interests can be accommodated for individuals in their bespoke job plans. Interests currently catered for include echo, ultrasound, maternal medicine, oncology, medical education, and simulation.

Sheffield offers a perfect mix of vibrant city life, culture spots, and beautiful outdoor spaces right on your doorstep – including the Peak District National Park. With excellent schools, transport links, and employment opportunities, it’s a lovely place to make your home, enjoy city life, or raise a family.
