Newham University Hospital *NHS CLINICAL EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL* We are looking for Paediatrics and Neonatology trainees ST3 and above or post CCT specialist trainee in paediatrics or neonatology, starting onwards from September 2024. GMC registration and UK NHS clinical experience is essential for this role. The post would be based at Newham University Hospital which is part of Barts NHS Trust and they will be encouraged to work on collaborative projects. The successful post holder for this post will be involved primarily with developing educational opportunities within Paediatrics and Neonatology through a wide range of teaching modalities including simulation- based training, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics, a bedside teaching to both undergraduate and post graduate medical trainees. Trainees with an interest in developing/establishing digital learning/platform for teaching are welcomed. The Education Academy within Barts Health is expanding in response to the need with increasing numbers of students and trainees and commitment to offer the best educational experience for our trainees. Main duties of the job

This exciting and varied role will provide you with multiple opportunities to further develop your teaching skills and your special interests within medical education. You will be actively involved in setting up and delivering as a part of a motivated team a varied teaching program for undergraduate medical trainees and postgraduate paediatric doctors, nurses and allied health professionals across general paediatrics and neonatology at both sites. The post will allow you to develop your teaching skills and be able to facilitate small group teaching, teach at the bedside and deliver lectures to multidisciplinary groups. The post holder will have the opportunity to work across sites with other education fellows. All fellows joining our team will be invited to join our Education Forum where fellows have access to a structured development programme. All our fellows are encouraged to undertake a PG Cert in Education. For those who already have this there will be an opportunity to undertake ILM3 (Leadership & Management Course). Funding will be available towards supporting this. The post is covered by the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales), as amended from time to time.

Job responsibilities

The contract is 12 month, fixed-term. 40% of the time will be dedicated to Education Delivery. 60% of the time will be undertaken within the chosen Clinical Speciality. This is a 40 hour week contract with the aim of minimal on calls, nights or weekends as part of this post. This will be agreed before appointment and in response to clinical and professional development need. Person Specification

  • Computer literacy: word, excel, power point
  • MBBS
  • APLS
  • NLS
  • Basic knowledge of educational theory


  • NHS Clinical Experience
  • Clinical background of either NICU or paediatrics
  • Previous experience in delivering education, ideally in an inter-professional setting
  • Experience of involvement in research/written papers/public presentation


  • Evidence of expert clinical skills & ability to work outside traditional boundaries


  • Demonstrate sensitivity & support in difficult training situation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to teach a wide range of both clinical & non-technical skills
  • Demonstrate commitment & enthusiasm to the provision of quality & innovative education
  • Ability to interact well with all members of a multi-professional team & at all grades of seniority
