The department was opened by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in 1993 and houses a teaching room with a small library, twin theatres, a day care unit (George Watts Ward) for the intensive treatment of ambulatory patients. The department joined the plastic surgery team in 2013 in a renovated space on the 1st floor of the Chelsea site.
