The post is a one-year fixed term contract. It will be based at the Great Western Hospital Swindon (GWH) This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a trainee with an interest in education. The post will be 50% in xxxx and Post Graduate Medical Education 50%. The post will also include the opportunity to be involved in the exciting field of simulation.

This post would typically suit a ST3 - ST4 level doctor at start of appointment, such as those wishing to undertake further training in medical education as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist training programme

Job responsibilities

. Provision of clinical education for postgraduate clinical trainees including simulation (where relevant) andclinical skills for trainees.2. To take part in on-going research projects or undertake original work under supervision with the aim ofproducing peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings in relationto speciality.3. Bedside and classroom teaching of postgraduate trainees in varies specialties.4. Coordination of post graduate trainees teaching opportunities5. Supporting Clinical Skills Teaching and ward-based assessment to post graduate trainees.6. Evaluation of teaching in conjunction with the relevant administrator.7. Undertaking any training that is identified as necessary for the candidate to teach effectively.Page 2 of 38. Promote and deliver simulation as an effective educational tool.Patient Care9. The post would be divided 50/50 Direct Clinical Care and Educational activity.10. Work clinically as part of the team within Paediatrics.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice.
  • Current and valid visa to allow work in the UK.
  • Eligible to work at ST1-ST4 at the time of appointment
Experience
Essential
  • Demonstrable previous NHS experience.
Desirable
  • Demonstrable experience within Paediatrics.
  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level
Knowledge
Essential
  • Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of an acutely ill patient.
  • Strong clinical and personal credibility. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills adapts style depending on audience
  • String organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
  • Excellent IT skills. Conceptual and analytical skills. Keen to innovate and take on new challenges.
Desirable
  • Ability to design and deliver bedside teaching and simulation.
