This is a Trust Grade Clinical Fellow post suitable for doctors who wish to pursue career in Paediatric and Neonatal. Trust is committed to supporting the post holder in developing career in Paediatrics and Neonatal. There is 1.0 WTE vacancies on a fixed term appointment for 12 months .

Paediatric department has 21 bedded Paediatrics ward includes 7 cubicles, two bedded well equipped HDU unit. Also 6 bedded day care ward for minor day surgery for children over 3 years of age. Department also have 6 bedded observational unit.

Neonatal unit is level II, caring for babies born more than 27 weeks and has close working relation with network tertiary unit which is Royal London Hospital. Unit has 23 beds including 2 intensive , 4 HDU care beds.

Department enjoys separate neonatal and Paediatrics middle grade and SHO cover, also has separate consultant cover from 8.30 till 1900 hours Monday to Friday and separate cover at, out of hours and over the weekend and bank holidays. Rota is fully complying with EWTD and doctors will not do more than 48 hours duty in a week.

Job responsibilities

Day Time Clinical Duties

Ward Round, providing cover to ambulatory unit, participating in outpatient clinics, and A*E, Providing cover to labour ward and postnatal ward, all with consultant supervision on a consultant of-the- week system.

On call Commitment

Full shift system, 7 people in a rota, providing cover to NICU, delivery suit, and postnatal ward or paediatric ward and A& E. There is a separate Registrar rota for Paediatric and Neonatal at all levels including Consultants, Registrar and SHOs.

Audit and Research

The appointee will be expected to participate fully in the departmental audit programme, to aid in developing of clinical services guidelines and to support SHOs in these activities. Participation in clinical research that is related to service delivery, particularly the chosen specialty, will be encouraged and facilitated. Research registrar is in post and takes responsibility of facilitating audits and research.

Teaching

Department is actively involved in teaching medical students from Barts and London University , 6-8, 4th year medical students coming for 6 weeks. Department has lead consultant and teaching registrar in post who look after their training needs. It is expected that potholder will involve in teaching medical students, SHOs and nursing staff.

Medical Practice

All members of The Trusts medical staff are expected to practice with in the GMC guideline, in particular those contain within the booklet on Good Medical Practice and Maintain Good Medical Practice. Additionally, all members of the Trusts medical staff are expected to be familiar with the Trust Professional Standard Advisory Group Process and to follow this as appropriate.

Professional and personal development.

The Trust is committed to support professional and personal development of post holder. Post holder will be expected to participate in continuous medical education CME or Continuous professional development CPD and financial support (400 pound per annum) and study leave of (10 days per annum) are available for this purpose. Being a part of bigger trust which is Barts Health NHS Trust, it opens up further teaching and training opportunities across the trust.

The Appointee will be allocated a consultant educational supervisor / mentor who will support appointees personal educational development. Appraisals will be timetabled on a regular basis.

Full Shift night (12 hours + handover) Long day (12 hours + handover) short day (8.30 am till 17.00 hours)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • At least 24 months Paediatrics experience and 6 months tertiary neonatal experience or 12 months neonatal experience in level II unit at registrar level
  • APLS/EPLS
  • Child protection course
  • NLS

Experience
