About The Role

Where making a difference changes lives

Secure environments are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work. If you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing medical skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this could be the opportunity for you.

If you are new to offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this exciting role. If you have not previously engaged with secure environments, your transferable communication skills will help and you may need training and development to work confidently in some unfamiliar areas of practice.

You will be offered Substance Misuse and other offender health specific courses if needed. You may work in one main site alongside other sites and option to work remotely to keep a variety of skill mix and practice in your portfolio, which may range across security categories from high to low/open and populations from young offenders to elderly care for both male and female patients as you are able. We offer a competitive annual salary plus payment of MDU/MPS subscription and CPD days. Furthermore, should you wish there may be opportunities for extra shifts.

This role is 22.5 hours a week flexible days  and can be discussed in interview.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Experience of working as a General Practitioner
• Willingness to provide mentoring and support to all other Clinicians where appropriate
• Evidence of continuing professional development
• Knowledge of methods of developing clinical quality assurance and evidence based practice
• Evidence of up to date knowledge and skills
• Evidence of ability to maintain and monitor high standards of care
• Evidence of audit activities
• Ability to communicate with people of all capabilities and attitudes

• Inclusion in the GMC Register
• On a CCG Medical Performance List
• RCGP pt 1 (or willing to undertake)

MBChB or MBBS qualified, you’ll be registered with the GMC and on a PCT Medical Performers List. RCGP1 part 1 is desirable.

HMP Isle of Wight was opened in April 2009; it was formed by the clustering of three former establishments HMP Parkhurst, HMP Albany and HMP Camp Hill. HMP Isle of Wight's present role is a category B male training prison. The prison holds approximately 1100 prisoners on two sites with a central administration. The site houses a dedicated multidisciplinary team around the GP including, ACP, Mental Health Team, Nursing and Physiotherapy – there is also an on-site pharmacy and dispensary.

Practice Plus Group is a specialist provider of NHS services into prison healthcare across over 45 different prisons, young offenders and immigration removal centres. We believe in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history. The prison population is one of the most vulnerable and challenged patient groups in society and the delivery of their health care is conducted within often difficult and demanding environments.

Practice Plus Group’s mission is Access to Excellence. Our core values are;

we treat patients and each other as we would like to be treated,
we act with integrity
we embrace diversity
we strive to do things better together.
Patients can only access excellence if we commit to living our values in everything we do when we’re at work.

If you share these values and have transferable skills we want to meet you!
