Specialist doctor, Anaesthesia
Contract Type
Full Time

We are looking for two enthusiastic and self-motivated consultants to join our department on a substantive basis, following the recent retirement of two consultants.

Both posts will be suitable for those with general interests. We would particularly welcome someone with expertise in areas such as Preoperative Assessment, Acute Pain Management and Obstetric Anaesthesia.

However, the exact details of the job plan will be tailored to suit each successful candidate's interests and the needs of the Department following the resumption of the elective surgical programme.

Both jobs will involve covering general theatre lists and participating in the general on-call rota. All jobs are appointed to the Trust and will involve an element of cross site working and/or collaboration.

Main duties of the job

This is a full-time post of 10 PA, divided into 8.5 PA for Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 PA for Supporting Professional activities. SPA time is given to support personal CPD, preparation for GMC appraisal, governance and quality improvement activities as required for successful appraisal. Each new Consultant will also be offered an additional 0.25 PA for each trainee as Educational Supervisor once they have completed appropriate training.

Time for additional activities will be discussed and agreed at the first job planning meeting within 3 months of appointment. Extra SPA time may be available on negotiation where additional work can be demonstrated.

Of the 8.5 PA for Direct Clinical Care, this is divided into 7.5 PA for theatre sessions and 1 PA for participation in the 1 in 14 on call rota. This translates to 6 theatre sessions per week (each at 1.25PA, = 7.5 PA.
