Locum Consultant Vascular Surgeon (10 PA, Fixed Term - 12 months)

We are looking for a Consultant Vascular Surgeon on a fixed term basis for 12 months to work in our team.

Key duties will include supervising and running outpatient clinics, operating lists and care for patients on ward in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward nurses and specialist nursing teams.

The post will be based at the Royal London Hospital however the post-holder will be required to work at other Barts Health sites.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and be on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have completed SpR training or equivalent and obtained the CCT and have a clear track record of training in vascular surgeryo The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Vascular surgical services to Barts Healtho The current facilities and clinical responsibilities are largely centered at The Royal London Hospital but as post-holder you will also be required to deliver care flexibly at other sites - it is envisioned that the post-holder will undertake a clinic, ward round and an operating list at Whipps Cross Hospital on a weekly basiso To undertake 1 day of operating in main theatreso To undertake 1/2 day venous surgery list at Whipps Cross University Hospitalo To provide diagnosis and treatment of patients in hospitals and clinics within the Trust, with a particular focus on Diabetic Foot Programme at Whipps Cross University Hospitalo To provide evidence-based care for all patientso To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues, managers, General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencieso To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work, working particularly closely and regularly with existing post-holderso Responsibilities will also require the post holder to fully participate in the teaching and training of all professional groups and play a central role in clinical governance issues within the specialty of Vascular Surgery

Qualifications
Essential

  • MB BS, or equivalent
  • FRCS(Gen Surg) or equivalent
  • On GMC Specialist Register for Vascular surgery or within 6 months of attaining CCT.

Desirable

  • Higher Research Degree
  • MD or PhD

Clinical Experience
Essential

  • Comprehensive training in Vascular Surgery in dedicated units
  • Subspecialty training, experience

Management / Audit Experience
Essential

  • Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy.
  • Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion.
