**We are recruiting Trust Junior Clinical Fellow roles for August 2024 start dates**

There are vacancies across the General Medicine Wards and Acute Medicine Ward at Princess Royal University Hospital (BR6 8ND).

There will also be position available at Orpington Hospital.

Overview

Acute Medicine at the Princess Royal forms part of the Acute and Emergency Medicine Division and works closely with the Emergency Department to provide acute care services on the site based in the Acute Medical Unit and the Ambulatory unit. The post holder will work as part of a dynamic team comprising of 8 Acute Medicine Consultants and 24 junior doctors.

Individuals will get the chance to work on the acute medical take focusing on managing acutely unwell patients within the first 48 hours of admission, and more stable acute patients in the ambulatory unit. The appointee will gain experience in managing a large range of medical conditions and the opportunity to gain confidence in assessing and treating unstable patients.

Main duties of the job

This post would be suitable for any trainee who has, or are on course to, successfully complete a 2-year Foundation School programme or has achieved equivalent competencies who will join at a Junior Clinical Fellow level. Ideally trainees will have an up to date certification for Adult Life Support training, or be able to fulfil the necessary qualification upon appointment.

Although this appointment is not accredited for training through HEE, the appointee will be expected to participate fully in the many educational and training opportunities within the department and the hospital. The appointee will have a named clinical/ education supervisor. Annual leave and study leave is commensurate with other post foundation doctors.

The experience and opportunities offered would be excellent experience for applicants planning a career in any medical specialty.

Previous post holders have been successful in gaining entry to training programmes upon completion as well as completing their Royal College membership exams.

Job responsibilities

The Princess Royal University Hospital is within greater London close to both Bromley and Orpington town centres which have fast rail links (18 minute journey) to central London. Both stations are less than 3 miles away with frequent bus service from the hospital. In addition the hospital is only 20 minutes drive from the M25 J4.

In General Medicine there are an exciting range of opportunities for training and augmenting your experience. If successful at interview you will be able to confirm your preferred specialty.

Previous Experience
Essential

  • Experience in general medicine
  • Successful completion of a Foundation School Training Programme in the UK (or able to prove equivalent competencies)

Education/Qualifications
Essential

  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC
  • MB BS (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • MRCP part 1 (or equivalent)
  • Academic honours or prizes
  • Valid ALS

Skills/Knowledge/Ability
Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of general medicine.
  • Clear, logical thinking showing an analytical/ scientific approach
  • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams.
  • Shows knowledge of evidence informed practice
  • Able to change and adapt, respond to changing circumstances
  • Able to operate under pressure, cope with setbacks, self-aware

Desirable

  • Understanding of NHS and Clinical Governance.
  • Information technology skills
  • Demonstrate use of evidence-informed practice
  • Shows initiative/ drive/enthusiasm (self- starter, motivated, shows curiosity, initiative).
  • Evidence of teaching experience involvement in organised teaching
