Job Details

The post holder will be working with the Early Intervention in Psychosis service in Oxfordshire, and will gain experience in the assessment and management of early psychosis. The team works with patients between the ages of 14 - 35 presenting with a first episode of psychosis, or who are at risk of developing psychosis. This is a fascinating patient group, posing diagnostic and management challenges, and as this is often the first contact the patient (and family) have with mental health services, it can serve as a model for the patient's future experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in assessment, treatment and management of patients from the point of referral until transfer to another service. He/She will be involved in developing high quality care plans which may include work on early warning signs and relapse prevention for example.

Person Specification

  • General medical qualification


  • Some or all parts of MRCPsych or equivalent


  • Shall have completed at least 3 years' full-time Postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.


  • To exercise an intermediate level of clinical responsibility as delegated by the consultant in charge

Skills and Knowledge

  • To exercise an intermediate level of clinical responsibility as delegated by the consultant in charge.
  • Ability to work through a collaborative multi-disciplinary framework
  • Ability to contribute to effective team working. Capacity to prioritise workload.
  • Must have good skills in communication with patients, relatives, colleagues and staff of other organisations. Good spoken and written English.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with a range of professionals.
  • Must have interest in research and commitment to people with mental health problems, and their carers.
  • Must have experience of teaching medical undergraduates and have an interest in teaching Interest in participating in research
  • Experience of delivering individual psychological treatments
