Senior Clinical Fellow in Acute Medicine -

We don't believe in long job adverts instead we offer the following: An a opportunity for a post of Acute Medicine Specialty SpR to join a rapidly expanding, dynamic team of Acute physicians, Nurses and Managers. All doctors are offered a 4 week shadowing period followed by trust and local induction. Healthily Annual and study leave allowance. The Trust is investing in an SDEC service with an exciting new expansion to the Acute Medicine department. We can support candidates who are looking to go into a HEE training programme

In return we are looking for candidates who have: Full registration with the General Medical Council. Full MRCP Significant experience in Acute Medicine. Up to date Advanced Life Support (ALS). Experience in Acute Medicine

Main duties of the job

The Acute Medicine team at Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals Trust (BHRUT) spans across both Queen's and King George Hospital. Each site has a separate Medical Receiving unit (MRU) Queen's Hospital has a 30 bedded unit whilst King George Hospital MRU is 28 bedded. Both units receive patients directly from the Emergency Department (ED) via medical on call. Consultants and Trust Clinical Fellows cross covers both sites.

The post holder will join our dynamic acute assessment team across both sites. The Acute medical team is continuously expanding with a wonderful vision of excellent patient care, quick turnover, improving patient flow as well as amazing training facility for our trainees and junior doctors. Acute Medicine team are looking to recruit Senior Clinical Fellows, all posts are as part of the recent vacancy and expansion of our service.

After successful recruitment the postholder will have an extensive induction by the Trust and Department and a period of shadowing to understand the activities of the department as well as our hospitals. An electronic induction pack will be supplied prior to formal induction. Post holder will be encouraged to complete online mandatory training after successful recruitment.

About us

The Acute Medicine Team at BHR are the 'gate keepers' of all medical admissions through both BHR sites. Acute assessment unit has got a big pool of junior doctors made up of both trust employed and deanery training posts. Most of our juniors involved in medical on call which also supported by junior doctors from medical subspecialties.

In amongst the consultant body, we have Training programme directors for IMTs FY1 and FY2 with a clear focus on education and creating supportive environment for all staff to work in. The Acute Medicine team has made significant progress with recruitment and with additional allocation of IMT3s and GPVTS trainees from August the unit is now in an healthy position to support and create an environment for further successful recruitment utilising on schemes that have been beneficial in the successes thus far.

Person Specification

  • Full GMC registration with license to practice
  • Must have minimum 12 months UK experience
  • Must have full MRCP & ALS


  • Previous acute medicine experience
  • Be able to work independently and be able to supervise junior doctors
