Main duties of the job

We are currently a department of 8 General Consultant Radiologists, 3 of which have breast specialist interests. This post is to replace the retirement of one of these Breast Radiologists. Jersey is an Island which serves a population of 100,000 and this would bring the complement of Radiologists up to that recommended by the Royal College. The department consists of 7 FTE General Radiologists with subspecialist interests and a 8th fulltime fixed term Radiologist covering general duties and the plain film work. We have a certain amount of flexibility with this post as long as the essential core component in breast radiology is fulfilled. This flexibility ranges from being able to provide a full time breast post with no on-call to a more desirable configuration of a General Radiologist with an interest in breast imaging and provision of on call. The Mammography Department is currently staffed by 3 Consultant Radiologists, providing 6-7 symptomatic sessions in total and this job would be anticipated to provide at least 2 sessions. We have a Breast Surgeon, Mr Matt Stephenson who provides both mastectomy and a full reconstruction service. The Mammography Department is currently separated from the main department. There is a reporting room, an Ultrasound and Diagnostic Suite and a new GE Mammography Suite with Tomosynthesis and vacuum assisted biopsy.

About us

The Jersey Health and Community Services Department is independent from the UK National Health Service and is the political responsibility of the Health and Community Services Ministry, consisting of an elected Minister and two Assistant Ministers who serve as part of the Islands Government system. Funded by the States of Jersey from taxation revenue, the Department of Health and Community Services has a statutory requirement to provide free health care in respect of Hospital Services, Public and Environmental Health for the residents of the island.
