Main duties of the job

We are delighted to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our friendly team. The Department of Respiratory Medicine at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is seeking to appoint a committed full-time Consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Medicine. PAHT is a forward-thinking, friendly district general hospital with a cohesive respiratory department that already provides a wide range of core respiratory services and has good working relationships with our London Partnership Trusts and the Royal Papworth Hospital.

This is a part time post with 8 PA allocation, with the option for an additional 1 PAs if the candidate wishes to join the NIV on call rota. It is subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of the new consultant contract (2003).

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register of the GMC and hold a licence to practice, or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date.

Job description
Job responsibilities

There are 28 inpatient respiratory beds on the Respiratory Ward, Locke, on the second floor in the main building at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) site. The successful candidate will share responsibility for the respiratory patients at PAH

Ward cover:

The Trust is committed to daily consultant input onto the in-patient wards. More input than the traditional two consultant ward rounds are required. The Respiratory division model is for two consultant Respiratory Physicians to each have half the ward and for both consultants to see all new patients, sick patients & any who might be able to be safely discharged sooner with consultant input daily.

The expectation is for the consultants to do two full ward rounds weekly with shorter selective rounds on other days but a minimum of paper rounds to support the junior team and allow time to meet with relatives. They will support the Registrars and discuss any referral as required. If the Registrars are away they would be expected to cover the ward referrals. The ward cover is by monthly rota and when off the ward a separate weekly rota for MAU referral cover is available

  • Registered with GMC.
  • MRCP or equivalent.

  • Other degrees, e.g. BSc MSc, MD, PhD.
