Brunel Medical School is seeking to appoint two senior clinicians to Senior Clinical Lecturer positions. The successful applicants will join a dynamic multi-professional team, taking shared responsibility for university-based teaching and assessment of Physician Associate (PA) students.

Main duties of the job

As Senior Clinical Lecturer (Education) you will make a significant contribution to the delivery of our Physician Associate MSc programme. Your areas of contribution will depend on your expertise and experience. We would particularly welcome applicants who could teach (or have sound understanding of assessment in) one or more of the following:
  • Clinical ethics
  • Clinical professionalism
  • Patient safety
  • Clinical communication
  • Integration of biomedical and clinical knowledge

The successful applicants will be senior clinicians, GMC registered with a licence to practise, and in practice as a General Practitioner or NHS consultant. They will have experience of university-based teaching and assessment of Physician Associate students. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience.

Main accountabilities:

To show academic leadership in the design and delivery of high-quality, research-informed teaching and student support, contributing to scholarship and administration by:
  • Using innovative approaches to enthuse and engage students
  • Demonstrating excellence in teaching, assessment and student support across a range of modules or programmes, and at various levels
  • Having an in-depth understanding of own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge
  • Demonstrating effective organisation and management of teaching and learning provision

Person Specification
  • Experience of managing university-based physician associate education
  • Experience of interactive, student-centred learning and teaching
  • Experience of managing administrative work in relation to teaching
  • External recognition as a scholar, practitioner or educator
  • Experience of teaching in an interprofessional context
  • Contribution to teaching and/or assessment of physician associate students in primary care
  • Contribution to medical education research and scholarship
  • Development of high-quality educational resources
  • Experience of contributing to the GMC accreditation process for new medical schools
  • Experience of university governance processes
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • General Practitioner, at least 5 years post Certificate of Completion of Training
  • Membership or Fellowship of Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP)
  • Postgraduate qualification in medical education
  • Registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), with the licence to practise as a GP or NHS Consultant
  • Fellow or Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy
  • Research Doctorate (MD, PhD or equivalent)
  • Teaching commendation or other evidence of excellence in education
