The Paediatric Department within the Women and Children Care Group is seeking to recruit 2 x Junior Clinical Fellow ST1-2 at the Furness General Hospital.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, North Western Deanery and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust's high standards of patient care. UHMBFT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical Schools MBChB degree programme.

Main duties of the job

As the successful applicant you will work as a member of a team of intermediate grade doctors working a full shift system.

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

Day to day care of patients on the Children's Unit, Special Care Baby Unit and post-natal Ward

  • Maintenance of patient's records
  • Participation in Consultant-led ward rounds undertaken by the Paediatric Team
  • Emergency care of patients in the specialty and urgent admissions / referrals
  • Participation in a full shift system.
  • Attendance and participation in the local teaching programme
  • Opportunity to observe paediatric out-patient clinics

Skills, ability and knowledge
Essential

  • Ability to work in a team with professional colleagues both medical and other disciplines
  • Ability to present at departmental meeting

Desirable

  • Completion of IELTS if applicable

Personal Qualities
Essential

  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients, their parents and other relatives and with colleagues in all disciplines.

Education and qualifications
Essential

  • Basic Medical Qualification (eg MBBS or equivalent)

Desirable

  • APLS or EPLS and NLS trained

Experience
Essential

  • Good core knowledge of general medicine including a t least 1 year Foundation Post.
  • Knowledge of the audit process

Desirable

  • At least 6 months' experience at SHO level in Paediatrics
