Main duties of the job

We are seeking to recruit an Associate Lecturer to contribute to the development and the delivery of Physician Associate education.

You should be an experienced academic with a related Biomedical Science background, with specific knowledge in the areas of physiology, pathophysiology and/or pharmacology. It is expected that you enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team and have a passion for developing and teaching healthcare students.

Job description
Job responsibilities

1. To facilitate the educational experience of learners on the Physician Associate MSc. Programme teaching biomedical science and non-clinical modules.

2. In accordance with quality assurance procedures contribute to the assessment process for students that could include the setting, marking and moderation of student work, individually or collectively as part of a module team.

3. To design, develop and support the development of innovative and inspiring learning materials and assessment.

4. To participate as appropriate in ongoing course design, development, and evaluation, including interdisciplinary courses.

5. To facilitate effective relationships with other healthcare providers both in the UK and Internationally.

6. To support reflective practice and research informed teaching.

7. To undertake tutorial or mentoring responsibilities, including maintaining records, for a group and/or individual students as required in order to support students to: optimise their clinical learning opportunities and career progression monitor student progress, in learning or clinical practice deal with difficulties and enable them to develop the skills to do this for themselves.

8. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

9. Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety, and wellbeing and that of other staff and students.

10. Carry out these duties in a manner that promotes equality of opportunity and supports diversity and inclusion and takes into account the University's commitment to environmentally sustainable ways of working.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • A good first degree in biomedical sciences, anatomy, physiology or a closely related subject area.
  • A Masters level qualification or equivalent in the subject specialism or closely related area.
Desirable
  • PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (or equivalent) and / or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy / Advance HE.
Experience
Essential
  • Experience of teaching relevant subject area within Higher Education and / or a clinical setting, including the ability to enthuse, motivate and facilitate student learning using a variety of methods of learning and teaching including online modalities.
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
Desirable
  • Experience of teaching subject area to healthcare students at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
Skills
Essential
  • Demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion, and to health and well-being issues in both staff and students.
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills ability to communicate confidently and clearly with a range of people both orally and in writing.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of the subject specialism requirements of the GMC related to relevant health care courses.
