Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing face to face consultations for patients presenting with undifferentiated problems, with a wide range of minor injuries, long term conditions and minor illness needs as well as undifferentiated clinical presentations.

Be compliant with the FPA Code of Professional Conduct and be registered on the PAMVR. Take a comprehensive patient history, carry out physical examinations and use expert knowledge and clinical judgement to identify the potential diagnosis. Refer patients for investigations and/or the appropriate specialist where appropriate. Make a final diagnosis and independently decide on and carry out treatment.

Use your existing practice experience to plan and provide skilled and competent care to meet patients' health and social care needs, involving other members of the wider health care team as appropriate.

Ensure the provision of continuity of care including follow-up visits Assess and evaluate, with patients, the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and make changes as needed Work independently, although often as part of a local and wider health care team. Provide leadership to the wider team and make sure that each patients treatment and care is based on best practice.

Location of the job role does say Cornlands Road, however you could be based at any of our 9 surgery sites across York.

About Priory Medical Group

We are an established training practice with a variety of roles working within the multidisciplinary team. These roles include Physician Associates, Clinical Pharmacists, MSK specialists, Mental Health Workers, and Social Prescribers.

We have had Physician Associates at Priory Medical Group for over 5 years and have developed a successful Preceptorship supporting Physician Associates to develop clinically in a supportive learning environment with protected time for debriefing and teaching. There is also the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and skills in areas such as diabetes, women's health clinics, implant and coil fitting, minor surgery and learning disability clinics.

Job description
Job responsibilities
  • Our surgeries offer both urgent care sessions and routine appointments. You will work closely with other clinicians (GPs and other Allied Health Professionals including Physician Associates) as part of a supportive team at our surgery(s).
  • You will be responsible for providing face to face consultations for patients presenting with undifferentiated problems, with a wide range of minor injuries, long term conditions and minor illness needs as well as undifferentiated clinical presentations.
  • Be compliant with the FPA Code of Professional Conduct and be registered on the PAMVR.
  • A key aspect of your role will be working along side our diabetes team looking after patients with diabetes. You will be supported by Priory Medical Group to develop these skills including appropriate external courses.
  • To take a comprehensive patient history, carry out physical examinations and use expert knowledge and clinical judgement to identify the potential diagnosis
  • To refer patients for investigations and/or the appropriate specialist where appropriate
  • Make a final diagnosis
  • Independently decide on and carry out treatment.
  • As a dependent clinician (until GMC registered) you will be supported by experienced GPs with prescriptions and ionising radiation requests.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • Proven background of dealing with a diverse range of patients from all walks of life.
  • Proven background of building positive rapport with a diverse range of internal colleagues and clients.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously whilst also having an awareness when identifying the need to access the wider clinical team or external agencies appropriately and safely.
Desirable
  • Experience of working in Primary Care environment (desirable not essential)
Qualifications
Essential
  • Qualified Physician Associate, registered with the PAMVR.
  • Hold a Full UK Driving License and access to a vehicle to travel between surgeries and other health care settings as appropriate.
