Remuneration value up to AU$514,452 p.a. comprising salary between $9,360.20 p.f. - $9,924.00 p.f. (L25-L27) or remuneration value up to $470,780 p.a. comprising salary between $7,827.20 p.f. - $9,091.70 p.f. (L18-L24); employer superannuation contribution (up to 12.75%), annual leave loading (17.5%), attraction and retention incentive allowance, professional development allowance, professional development leave 3.6 weeks p.a., professional indemnity cover, plus overtime and on-call allowances.

About the unit/team/department
The Mackay Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs Service comprises an acute mental health inpatient facility with 24 beds and a Step-Up Step-Down Unit with 10 beds. Community Mental Health Services include an Acute Care Service, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Continuing Care Team, Mobile Intensive Rehabilitation Team, Early Psychosis service ages 16-25, Child and Youth Mental Health, Older Persons Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs Services. There is also opportunity for involvement in community and inpatient services to clients managed and supported on forensic orders. The rural communities are serviced by outreaching community teams in the Hinterland and Whitsunday areas.
The role is situated within the Child and Youth Mental Health Service. In addition to the main CYMHS community mental health service, we have an Assertive Mobile Youth Outreach Service which forms part of an integrated continuum of care for adolescents requiring mental health treatment. These services are based in Mackay. The successful applicant will support and develop the outreach services to Bowen, Moranbah and Sarina rural centres. The Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) paediatric unit in the MBH have two designated mental health beds for brief admission of children and adolescents in crisis. The CYMHS service has links with the Townsville Adolescent Unit in the case of prolonged admissions, as well as support from Brisbane based Metropolitan services.
The Mackay Base Hospital is a state-of-the-art hospital in a sunny coastal location only an hour and 20 minutes flight from Brisbane. The Mackay Hospital and Health Service is looking for a Child and Youth Mental Health Services - Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.
- To provide an advanced standard of clinical care through the provision of assessment and treatment services to children and young people up to the age of 18 and their families, presenting with mental disorders, alcohol and other drug, emotional and/or behavioural disturbances to facilities within the Mackay Hospital and Health Service, including those being treated under the Mental Health Act (2016).
- This role will provide some services to the rural communities in both the Greater Whitsundays region and the Isaac rural hub to the west of Mackay, in addition to supporting the Child and Youth Mental Health Service based in Mackay. The role will include support of the Child and Adolescent Court Liaison Forensic Mental Health service based in Mackay.
- To support ongoing education within the mental health service through the supervision and teaching of junior medical staff and medical students.
- The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists participate in governance and educational activities jointly with their Adult Psychiatry colleagues and participate in the same after hours on call roster, hence will be required when on call to provide services to consumers across the full age spectrum.
