Job Details

Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth has a reputation for innovation and excellence, consistently delivering outstanding performance, whilst developing the skills and abilities of our staff. We are delighted to have recently been rated “GOOD” overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Applications are invited for a Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in lung Cancer. This is a post to support the existing Clinical Oncologists in the care of lung cancer patients and the use of SABR in Portsmouth. Lung SABR is now established practice, and oligometastatic disease commencing. This is an exciting opportunity to work and join a highly motivated and well supported multi-disciplinary team.

Portsmouth Oncology Centre is based at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, a busy and thriving tertiary care hospital, providing a wide range of acute services, research, and academic opportunities. The Oncology Centre provides Cancer services to the local population in addition to West Sussex (Chichester) and the Isle of Wight. We are a friendly and integrated Centre embracing enhanced radiographer, nursing and pharmacy roles, encouraging research and innovation.

The area combines the advantages of city life with rural villages and seaside towns. Portsmouth is a thriving naval city, steeped in history, on the beautiful South Coast. It is ninety minutes from central London and has good transport links by ferry and airplane into Europe. Water sports facilities are excellent with access to the Solent, and sandy beaches are within easy reach. Inland is the spectacular and relatively unspoilt countryside of rural Hampshire, and the South Downs National Park.

This position is 10 PAs, which can be all lung cancer based, or lung cancer combined with a second tumour type, which can be discussed and reflect the candidates interests and availability. Candidates are encouraged to discuss their preferences, and those who wish to work less than 10 PAs are very welcome.

Please contact Dr Caroline Archer, Clinical Director, caroline.archer@porthosp.nhs.uk or Dr Freddie Bartlett, Head of Radiotherapy on Frederick.bartlett@porthosp.nhs.uk, both on phone 02392 286000 Ext 4790 for informal discussion and further information.
