Job Details

The Emergency Department is a small-medium friendly department seeing approximately 64,000 adult and paediatric patients per year. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to join the multi-disciplinary ED team.

A full time specialty doctor works 10 sessions per week, with 8 clinical and 2 non-clinical sessions. The rota is an extremely flexible annualised rota and the pattern of work is tailored to individual requirements to ensure sustainable working and good work life balance.

English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply

Main duties of the job

  • Examination, investigation, treatment and referral of patients presenting to the Emergency Department
  • Oversee the work of other junior clinical staff working in the department
  • To participate in departmental teaching and audit programme

Job responsibilities

  • The examination, investigation, treatment and referral (as appropriate) of patients presenting to the Emergency Department
  • To oversee the work of other junior clinical staff working in the department, to ensure that an acceptable standard of practice is maintained
  • To lead shift handover
  • To attend safety huddles
  • To ensure IT patient information system is kept up to date
  • To ensure good communication with the Nurse in Charge
  • To ensure that all clinical staff have their appropriate breaks when acting as shift leader
  • To participate in departmental teaching and audit program

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MBBCh / MBBS / relevant medical degree
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • Advanced Life Support Provider
  • Minimum of 4 years work post registration
  • Minimum of 2 years working in Emergency Medicine in the UK

Desirable

  • Advanced Life Support or equivalent instructor
  • FRCEM Primary and Intermediate

Knowledge
Essential

  • Broad experience in Emergency Medicine
  • Good clinical knowledge, acumen and judgement
  • Good relevant practical skills
  • Understands the principles of audit and clinical governance
  • Understands the importance of patient safety and risk
  • Experience and participation in audit and/or quality improvement in last 18 months
  • Ability to produce or implement guidelines and protcols
  • Experience in teaching
  • Understands the importance of wellbeing in the workplace
  • Out of Hours / Hospital at night experience
  • Understands the CESR process
