ScotGEM Year 4 Lead

One Session (4 hours) per week

Fixed Term – Three Years

NHS Highland, in conjunction with the local Scottish Graduate Entry medical programme teaching team (ScotGEM), is looking for a motivated educator to take on the role as a lead for ScotGEM Year 4. You will be responsible for the co-ordination of the undergraduate teaching for final year ScotGEM students across NHS Highland and ensuring these activities are of educational value preparing them for life as a Foundation doctor.

The post holder is expected to work with the Associate Director of Medical Education (ScotGEM), ScotGEM Teaching Leads for Medicine and Surgery, year 2 and 3 leads and HMEC administrators to facilitate and co-ordinate departmental experiences and teaching in line with the curricular requirements. Collaboration with University of Aberdeen block leads and support for other UG programmes will be required.

This post is funded by NHS Highland ACT (Additional Cost of Teaching):

· If a Consultant or Specialty Doctor is appointed the duties of this post will be incorporated into the job plan of the post holder through a process of job plan review. Where a consultant is already on maximum hours as determined by working time regulations or does not wish to extend his or her hours, the time for the duties of Block Coordinator will be generated by ceasing four hours of other activity.

· If a GP is appointed sessional payment for four hours per week will available.

Educational and administrative support for this role comes from the Highland Medical Education Centre (HMEC) and will include induction and access to useful faculty development opportunities, as well as development and support of the teaching in various areas from the HMEC Clinical Teaching / Medical Education Fellows.

The post holder will be required to be recognised and approved by the GMC as part of the recognition and approval of trainers. NHS Highland and ScotGEM programme are committed to supporting the CPD required for this.

Informal enquiries should be made to:

· Dr Claire Vincent, Associate Director of Medical Education, claire.vincent@nhs.scot
