This post is for a speciality doctor in Oncology based at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. They will work with the existing clinical teams to provide a clinical service for the management of cancer patients. The service will be conducted by regular outpatient clinics, day case attendance, and telephone and face to face consultations. The appointee will be required to manage new and follow up patients and those on systemic anticancer treatments, including management of side effects and prescribing of SACT.
The appointee will be expected to cross-cover with the existing consultant for periods of annual or study leave. The appointee will be expected to take part in the SpR on call rota.
The appointee will be expected to participate in clinical governance, audit, annual appraisal and continuing medical education (CPD) complying with the CPD specifications of the Royal College of Physicians scheme (or equivalent). The appointee will be expected to maintain GMC registration and participate in the GMC revalidation scheme, time for revalidation activities is incorporated into the generic component of the SPAs.
The doctor will be expected to participate in research and development.
Main duties of the job
This post for a Specialty Doctor in Oncology to be employed by University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and based at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
The successful candidate must hold full registration (and a licence to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC). The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years' experience in working in Oncology. The successful candidate will have some experience working in general medicine.
If there is no GMC registered candidate, the post will be considered for suitable candidates from outside UK. They will have completed oncology training and hold a postgraduate qualification in Oncology from their home country, with an associated registration from their local medical council. Those with a FRCR qualification will be preferred even if only part of their FRCR exam is cleared. Both clinical and medical oncology candidates will be considered.
This is a full-time, substantive post. Flexible working will be considered.
