Required to fill this replacement 10 PA post supporting the Paediatric Respiratory team (Dr Tim Lee, Dr Chris Edwards, Dr Alex Adams, Dr Emma Guy, Dr Evelyn Robson). You will demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Cystic Fibrosis, and Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in bronchoscopy, sleep and long-term ventilation. The post will be based at Leeds Childrens Hospital.

All of Leeds tertiary paediatric services take place in the Leeds Childrens Hospital, within Leeds General Infirmary in Leeds city centre which has excellent transport links. Since April 2010 the regional paediatric respiratory and cystic fibrosis service for North, West Yorkshire and Humberside has been based at a new purpose built state of the art outpatient, day treatment and adjoining inpatient facility within the Childrens Hospital. Leeds is also the nationally commissioned supra-regional centre for childrens Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) for the North of England.

There are a total of 150 paediatric inpatient beds, 10 day unit beds and 10 respiratory beds. Tertiary referrals are received in cystic fibrosis, respiratory paediatrics, oncology, haematology, PICU, neurology, gastroenterology, hepatology, nephrology, transplant (liver, renal BMT), paediatric intensive care, neonatology, cardiology, endocrinology, rheumatology, spinal surgery, paediatric and neonatal surgery.

Main duties of the job

We provide a Respiratory Service to a city population of 750,000, and a regional population of 3.8 million. The Leeds/Sheffield training program offers comprehensive training to fulfil the requirements of the Paediatric Respiratory Medicine grid training syllabus.

The successful applicant should possess MRCPCH (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in all aspects of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and its related specialties including bronchoscopy, sleep and long-term ventilation. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

2.1 To deliver care to patients within the Paediatric Respiratory department at the Leeds Children's Hospital:

Out-patient clinics

Supervision of patients

Care of in-patients

2.2 To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within Paediatrics and across the Leeds Children's Hospital.

2.3 To work with colleagues in Paediatric Respiratory to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 6) for Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. This includes both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours.

2.4 To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the Paediatric Respiratory Service. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department.

Experience
Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Genito-Urinary Radiology, Oncological Radiology and Non-Vascular Interventional Radiology.
  • Specifically, must demonstrate higher specialist training in Non-Vascular Interventional Radiology.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Qualifications
Essential

  • MBChB or equivalent qualification.
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
  • GMC NUMBER MUST BE STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POST.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree.

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
Essential

  • Should have completed a recognised training programme in Clinical Radiology with FRCR certification.
  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
  • Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
  • Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
