An opportunity has arisen to gain experience in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine (GIM) in a supportive and educationally-focussed environment.
This post provides registrar-level experience in a teaching hospital with all the main medical sub-specialities. It would particularly suit doctors who have completed CMT and also individuals with equivalent experience. Posts will provide excellent experience and training for those looking to progress to speciality training and also for those looking to go down the non-Consultant career grade or SAS route.
As a Senior Clinical Fellow you would work under the supervision of the Gastroenterology Consultants on the Preston Site, who lead the ward team on a fortnightly rotational basis.
There will be opportunities to see in-patient Gastroenterology referrals and attend some specialist out-patient clinics. When not covering the wards the successful applicant would be expected to attend a wider number of speciality clinics as well as endoscopy sessions.
The post is fixed term and will provide very good training in Gastroenterology with exposure to some tertiary specialist services.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Clinical Fellow post will share the in-patient duties with another specialist registrar with an element of prospective cover. Whilst covering the wards the post-holder would be expected to participate in ward-rounds and ward multi-disciplinary team meetings. There are near-daily Consultant ward rounds providing ample opportunities for teaching and development on a dedicated Gastroenterology ward.
There are a variable number of outlying medical patients who are shared between existing medical teams. There will be opportunities to see in-patient Gastroenterology referrals and attend specialist out-patient clinics such as Viral Hepatitis, Nutrition and Hepatology. When not covering the wards the successful applicant would be expected to attend general and specialist clinics as well as endoscopy sessions. The post is permanent and will provide very good training in Gastroenterology with exposure to some tertiary specialist services.
The post will have a GIM on call element acting at registrar level if the applicant has attained the appropriate experience and competence. The current registrar GIM on call comprises a 1:10 rota. Duties will comprise those expected of an on call medical registrar (managing acutely unwell patients admitted under the department of medicine, seeing urgent referrals for medical problems in patients on surgical wards and providing advice and support for a number of more junior trainees).
