Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in General Anaesthesia with a Specialist Interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia.

           

The post is advertised to support the anaesthetic department at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The package includes recruitment and retention premia of £20,000 which will be paid in 2 equal instalments of £ 10,000 each. The first instalment of £10000 will be paid in the 13th Month salary and the second instalment will be paid in the 25th month salary after commencement of the post. There is also up to £8000 relocation allowance on provision of the relevant expense receipts.

This is a substantive job with sessions in General Anaesthesia for various surgical specialities and Obstetrics. Applicants are expected to have advanced experience in Obstetric Anaesthesia.

The new appointee will share the case-load, facilities and trainee grade support with the existing consultants.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals is the tertiary referral centre for complex obstetric parturients like high BMI, placental abnormalities like placenta praevia, Diabetes complicating pregnancy, pre-eclampsia etc.

Main duties of the job

The post is whole time and offers 8.7 Direct Clinical Care programmedThe consultant will cover General Anaesthesia lists and Obstetric Anaesthesia sessions as per the job plan.

 The consultant will be expected to join the on-call rota which is currently 1 in 8 and will become 1 in 9 after joining the post.  During weekday on-calls, you might have to be resident on call from 6pm till 8pm and non-resident after 8pm. For weekend on-calls (you are non-resident), it starts at 6pm on Friday and is continuous on Saturday and Sunday. We are accommodative for split weekends on-calls if warranted after discussing with the consultant group.  When on call from home you are ONLY responsible for Obstetric Anaesthesia. The trust has separate on call rotas for General Anaesthesia and Critical Care. When on call from home there is one dedicated anaesthesia trainee solely to cover Obstetric anaesthesia.

 

 

The anaesthetic department provides services across two hospital sites, Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. All paediatric and neonatal services are based on the Hull Royal Infirmary site as are all obstetric services.
