Applications are invited for the position of 2 posts as a Consultant Cardio-thoracic Anaesthetist with Special interest in Thoracic Anaesthesia. The Cardio-thoracic Unit is based at the Castle Hill Hospital site.

The package includes recruitment and retention premia of £20,000 which will be paid in 2 equal instalments of £ 10,000 each. The first instalment of £10000 will be paid in the 13^th Month salary and the second instalment will be paid in the 25^th month salary after commencement of the post. There is also up to £8000 relocation allowance on provision of the relevant expense receipts.

The newly appointed consultant will join 8 Consultant Cardio-thoracic Anaesthetists to provide Anaesthetic services with sessions in Cardio-thoracic theatres, Robotic,Interventional Cardiology and General Surgical Theatres.

The post holder would be providing anaesthetic services for comprehensive range of procedures including robotic surgery and minimally invasive thoracic surgical procedures.

We are expanding thoracic surgical services for Major Trauma patients and the newly appointed consultant will have a role in implementing pain management and rib fixation pathways for major trauma patients.

The post is full time and offers 9.625 Direct Clinical Care programmed activities (PAs) (which includes on-call PAs), and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA).

Main duties of the job

This is a substantive post wherein the post holder will provide theatre cover for CTS and general theatres with 4 fixed sessions and other flexible sessions.

The flexible sessions will be provided in the cardio-thoracic/ cardiology theatres as a priority. The post holder will provide an Anaesthetic Service in accordance with the agreed timetable and subsequent job plan and supervise trainee Anaesthetic staff within the Trust.

The Consultant Cardio-thoracic Anaesthetist will also provide 1 in 8 weekly cover for Cardio-thoracic ICU. The on-call will cover Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care, Cath Lab and Cardio-thoracic theatres along with other Consultant colleagues.
