Job Details
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Stroke Physician [from any background - Eldercare/Geriatrics, Neurology or Acute Medicine], on behalf of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, Cornwall.
Cornwall Stroke Services are in the process of rapid transformation with significant investment. Development of the Stroke service is a key priority of the Trust's senior management team, and the service is also well supported by the NHS Kernow Integrated Care Board. This new post supports the continued development of the Stroke service, and the successful candidate will work alongside existing clinicians and multidisciplinary teams across the stroke pathway.
Main duties of the job
There will be the opportunity to split a proportion of the job plan for non-stroke clinical work according to the individual's interests and training background. For a Neurologist, there would be scope to create a Neurology/Stroke job to enable work across both departments.
The Stroke service has strong working relationships with other departments such as Emergency Medicine (who currently provide the 24/7 thrombolysis service), Acute Medicine, Radiology, Cardiology, Vascular surgery, and Community Stroke teams. There are also strong links with the regional thrombectomy service at Derriford, and the Bristol Adult Congenital & Structural Heart disease services for PFO closure. There would be the opportunity to develop subspecialty interests within stroke such as complex thrombophilia through collaboration with regional neurovascular/ haematology MDT meetings.
