Job Details
We are seeking to recruit up to two substantive Consultant Anaesthetists to our current department of 25 whole time equivalents. These posts have arisen due to expansion of the Hospital and the new build of 4 additional Theatres.
This advertisement is for whole time consultant roles (10.5 PAs). On-call commitment equates to 1:8 which involves covering theatres and level 2 critical care services. This is non-resident on call and attracts a 5% salary uplift in addition to the weekly clinical job plan. The advertised 10.5 PA already includes this allocation. These job plans will include 1.5 of core SPA with an up to an extra 1 SPA available on taking on additional roles. One example is that successful applicants could contribute significantly to the current commitment of successfully completing ACSA within the coming two years (Accreditation of Clinical Services in Anaesthesia via the RCoA).
Within our department are 5 substantive anaesthetic specialty doctors, who along with our Anaesthetists in Training have theatre sessions, pre-operative assessment sessions and cover the resident high dependency rota.
There are also five anaesthetic associates working within our department. They work under the supervision of a consultant anaesthetist in line with RCOA recommendations in a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2. Twin theatre working is embedded in our rota.
Main duties of the job
Consultant General Anaesthetist posts with requested interests in providing anaesthesia for one or a more of complex arthroplasty including revision surgery, spinal surgery (both degenerative and deformity) and musculoskeletal oncology surgery. An interest in perioperative medicine including pre-assessment clinic and regional anaesthesia are also important.
