Job Details
We are looking to appoint a suitably qualified doctor to fill Deanery gaps in our IMT3 posts in Respiratory Medicine. This job is available with immediate effect until 06-08-2024
The successful candidate will work exclusively this academic year in Respiratory Medicine. They will be based on Becket Ward, in OPD including pleural effusion/lung cancer/asthma/COPD/ILD specialist clinics etc. They will be supported by our 4 HST in Respiratory and by a junior team of 6 doctors below IMT3 level. From February they may be asked to take part in the IMT3 rota for AIM which is a 1 in 11 rota. There are no on call commitments for this post until February 2024.
This post will provide opportunities to obtain sign-off of Capabilities in Practice for IMT2 and IMT3 equivalence for those aiming to apply for standalone IMT3 posts or for Higher Specialist Training. Many of our consultants are 'home-grown' NGH trained and there is a hospital wide ethos of supporting trainee doctors in developing their careers.
We want to appoint someone with a minimum of MRCP I who is working towards completing full UK MRCP and who is planning a career in Respiratory Medicine via UK HST or potentially via the CESR route to CCT. We do make every effort to discuss training needs with each doctor and to accommodate specialty interests of the successful candidates as far as possible.
Main duties of the job
This post will be based at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust and work within the Respiratory Department.
The post holder will work alongside their ward team of Consultants, SpRs, and other junior medical staff along with all other multidisciplinary health care professionals.
The successful candidate will be allocated an educational and clinical supervisor and encouraged to complete training assessments in line with other trainees at the same level. This includes access to our highly successful Simulation Suite. There is a dedicated IMT3 training programe at NGH designed to help the IMT3 become MedReg - ready.
The majority of training will be on-the-job with close involvement of the consultants. The department has a weekly lunchtime teaching session and there will be opportunity to develop as an educator through support and training of junior colleagues.
In addition we offer dedicated patient safety lectures and practical training on procedures such as ultrasound guided CVP insertion. We have a state-of-the-art Simulation department who provide sessions both to doctors in training and those in Clinical Fellowships. The full programme provides junior doctors with a comprehensive training package.
Please note this is not an MTI post and we cannot consider applications requesting this.
