Manchester Royal Eye Hospital invites applications for a 12 months Vitreoretinal Research Fellowship. There is 1 vacancy in total, starting in August 2024.

There are 7 Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeons: Mr Niall Patton, Mr Felipe Dhawahir-Scala, Mr Assad Jalil, Ms Tsveta Ivanova, Mr Kirti Jasani, Mr George Turner and Mr George Moussa. At any one time there are 3 Vitreoretinal fellows in post for 1 year, together with 2 Specialist Registrars and an ASTO (advanced sub-specialty training opportunity for 6 months) on the Team. The VR unit provides a 24/7 tertiary referral service to other ophthalmic units in the North West of England. The Research Fellow will have dedicated VR research sessions, attend specialist tertiary referral clinics and dedicated VR operating sessions under the direction of the Consultant trainers. The Research Fellowship is suitable for a trainee Ophthalmologist seeking advanced sub-speciality training in vitreoretinal research, with the opportunity to be involved in new and established research projects within the department, and the Fellow will also have the opportunity to acquire early surgical and clinical vitreoretinal skills appropriate to then proceeding to undertake a major clinical vitreoretinal fellowship either within the UK or international. Previous experience of vitreoretinal surgery is not essential.
